I have been on the hunt for summer fashion now that summer is knocking on the door. So what is summers look for me this this year? I am all about the casual, bohemian look. It looks so effortless yet dreamy. It is timeless and very feminine. There is something about finding a boho chic dress that make me smile and feel so girly.
While setting out to find this look, I realized that there are some key elements you should be looking for. While I love Free People and Anthropologie, sometimes the prices are not as friendly on the pocketbook. So here are 5 elements that have helped me attain a more Boho Chic look:
- Silhouette: Look for lace, chiffon or crochet in the material. These types of materials are almost essential for the Boho look. I also like to stay very light in color. Think creams, whites, pinks and even black. Something that can flow in the wind. Think soft and ethereal. I love rompers, short dresses and long dresses. With long dresses, I tend to like the empire waist because it generally gives you more opportunity to have a dress that billows in the wind for that picture perfect moment.
- Shoes: For a very casual look, I gravitate towards a tan leather gladiator sandal. For dressing up I also stick with the nude colors but a gladiator wedge or heel depending on the occasion.
- Hair: I like a soft curl or a braid, or better yet…BOTH. For more of a vintage boho look, it is fun to part your hair down the middle. Think of hairstyles that can blow in the wind.
- Flowers: Flower crowns are all the rage and I am on board. Nothing brings a casual boho look like a freshly made floral crown. A good substitute for this is a single flower tucked behind your ear
- Accessories: I generally like to stick with either a chunky coral/turquoise statement necklace or a very heavy metal looking tribal necklace in silver or gold. These are great necklaces to have in your accessories as staples. They dress up anything from a plain white tee to an evening gown. For the bohomenian look, layers are key. If you do delicate necklaces, layer two or three or varying length. With bracelets, it truly is the more the merrier. Do not be afraid to mix metal colors, it is part of the look. Have fun with it.
