October 8th, my little guy and I headed down to the Discovery Cube Orange County to partake in the all of the Ice Age Collision Course DVD Release party FUN with out friends at Fox Home Entertainment.
The last time I visited the Discovery Cube OC was for Winter Formal my junior year of high school, so it was a LOT more fun to watch my little guy exploring every nook and cranny of the Cube. I love how interactive and though provoking their space is. So fun for wee ones and adults too!
After being treated to a light breakfast and running around the Discovery Cube, we headed into the Theater to learn more about Ice Age. I don’t know who was more excited about this..me or my little one. We have been HUGE FANS of the Ice Age movies. We have every DVD and even saw Collision Course in theaters. So to get an “inside scoop” was a super cool treat for us. We listened to one of the directors of Collision Course Galen Chu, who has been with the Ice Age family since the original where he started as an animator. He walked us through the storyboards, which was fascinating.
Then the real treat came…one of the animators taught the kiddos how to draw some of the main characters of Collision Course. We started off with Scrat (the squirrel on the quest for his nut), then Buck and ended with Frannie/Francine (Sid the Sloth’s girlfriend). I was amazed at how a little tutorial had my little guy drawing a pretty good rendition of the characters. It was SO COOL!
We rounded out our time in the Theater watching DVD extras, which were awesome and would have added such a different element to the movie. I won’t spoil it for you, but I will say if you like Scrat the Squirrel…you will LOVE the extras. We ended our time with a fun talk about the latest and greatest in SPACE with a real Solar Expert from UCLA. The scientist also shared some of her rock collection, which was pretty cool (I’m a HUGE rock lover).
We headed out the door of the theater to start a VIP tour of select Discovery Cube exhibits relating to Ice Age, including Mission Control and The Science of Hockey…YES PLEASE!
We had an awesome time and went home with some Ice Age goodies…like a Snow Globe, Space Scrat Key Chain, pencils, stickers, paper and the two most coveted items…the Ice Age Collision Course DVD and Ice Age Sonic Care Kids toothbrush! When you are 5 years old, these items are like winning the jackpot!
Thanks for the FUN Saturday Discovery Cube OC, Fox Home Entertainment and Ice Age!
We cant wait to pop our Ice Age Collision Course DVD in the player this week!
