In the fast paced world that we live in, believe it or not there is a way to integrate imaginary play and a tiny bit of tech. There was a huge part of me that was so against technology for kids and then Randi Zuckerberg said it so well..tech is an integral part of the world our kids live in. Our kids are not living in the 80s like I was, they are living in the 2010s and the times are different. While imaginary play should still be a very important part of childhood, we need to be more open to the idea of tech with our kids.
I have a feeling that if I was chatting with my Grandpa, he might have felt the same way about the radio as I do about technology. The radio is something I turn on whenever I want and never have a limit, back in my Grandpa’s day the radio was a luxury that you would turn on every now again and gather around as a family. Yes, tech in the last decade has come a long way, but honestly I remember when we had dial up internet and you would pay for cell phone time by the minute. I remember when blackberries were the “it” thing and you could send a handful of text messages for a premium.
With all that being said, I am a huge advocate of integrating technology into my kiddos life in a very gentle way. I love that the new Seedling Little’s collection is based on imaginary play but there is a Seedling Littles app you can download to bring some of the items into augmented reality. What I love about this collection is that you don’t need the app to have kids immersed in imaginary play. My little guy was playing with the Galaxy Rocket Adventure for hours and it is still going strong today. Yesterday I was playing with the sushi set and what was cool about the app is that you can play sushi tic tac toe and the sushi mat comes to life. This collection is awesome and I love the soft tech integration that is there if you want it.
Thank for the fabulous morning Seedling. We had a blast at the Little Beach House in Malibu!
