As a HUGE Disney fan, I pretty much love all of their movies and one of my very favorite movies growing up was Mary Poppins. I cannot imagine that there is a single person in the entire universe who doesn’t love that movie. When the trailer for the sequel, Mary Poppins Returns came out, I was a little unsure if the sequel would be as good as the original because generally, the sequels are fun but never quite as good as the original. Either way…we set off to the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood because it is truly the only way to see a Disney movie.
Right as we entered the theater I felt as though we were transported back into my childhood because the entire theater was Mary Poppins immersion, which brought the biggest smile to my face. I may have even started singing “A Spoon Full of Sugar Makes the Medicine Go Down…In the most delightful way! ”
We found our seats just as the movie began and within moments we were laughing, smiling and having the time of our lives. Lin-Manuel Miranda was INCREDIBLE! We are HUGE Hamilton fans, so it was no surprise we loved him in this movie. I loved that he brought in elements of a light rap, more contemporary dancing, and overall just Disney Magic. Lin-Manuel could not have been more correct about saying that Emily Blunt exudes Mary Poppins..it’s true! I LOVED Julie Andrews in the original Mary Poppins and thought that it would be quite difficult to fill those shoes, but Emily Blunt does it so well despite with critics are saying. Often as a mom, I don’t listen to the critic’s review because I am looking for such different elements of the movie. I look at the overall artistry of the production, direction, clean language, and entertainment value.
So as far as Mary Poppins Returns is concerned….we loved it and cannot wait to watch it again! In fact, I loved it so much and put together a Mary Poppins inspired outfit based on the inspiration from the Trunk Club…
