Anyone can wear the mask -Spiderman in the Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse movie 🕷💯🕷
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is one of the best movies of 2018 for reminding kids that anyone can be a superhero. You don’t need a special title or costume…you can simply help others because it is the right thing to do and they are in need and you can instantly become a superhero.
This movie is so incredibly relatable to kids. Spiderman has a normal life with the average normal kid problems. There is very much the everyman quality about him and he is extremely inclusive. In the blink of an eye Spiderman can channel his inner superhero and save the world. I do love that in this particular Spiderman movie that they brought in a multi-cultural angle of Miles Morales. This is the first time kids of mixed backgrounds have had the chance to see someone represent them as a superhero on the big screen. I love that not only is Spiderman of mixed race, the movie also brings in culture. For example, in Morales’ home, there is always hot soup on the stove for breakfast which I completely identify it. I grew up with Indian curry on the stove all the time. There is no right time to eat it. It was served breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
One of the most special parts of this movie is the Stan Lee tribute package. According to the directors, Stan Lee was everything you wanted him to be….sweet, enthusiastic, genuine and had an Excelsior quality about him. He voiced 5 lines and the one line that ended up in the final cut of the movie is the one line Stan connected most with.
One of the fun elements of the home release of Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse is a super fun short with my favorite new character… Spider-Ham! Peter Porker is Spider-Ham (how fun is that?!?!) and the title of the short is written in bacon. Essentially this short is the prequel to the movie, it is 2D and hand-drawn as well. Think of this short as the modern digital cartoon of duck a puck. Super fun and silly and a great bonus feature for at home viewing.
