I love love love a good cardboard costume situation for Halloween for kids. We all get those delivery boxes and if you are me it might be more daily so I have a lot of cardboard boxes around. A cardboard box is one of my favorite things to build out a kids Halloween DIY costume out of. My little guy and I found the perfect sized box, then we went to craft store to pick out all the paint colors, fun sparkly papers and fun checkered duck tape that we wanted to use to create his own personalized Hot Wheels car for Halloween night in honor of the super fun Netflix show, Hot Wheels Let’s Race.
First step was so paint the box. We started with a blue all over. When that was done we added some lighter blue and green. While this was all drying we got to work cutting out lightning bolts, stripes, stars and more out of the fun sparkly papers we got as well as printing out a Hot Wheels logo to add on to the cardboard car. I used my electric scissors and cut the bottom flaps off of the box as well as one of the smaller flaps on the top of the box. I then cut the two side flaps to make the hood of the car and then hot glued it. So far so cute. We hot glued all the pieces we cut out on to the front and sides of the car and then we addded some fun rhinestone star stickers on too. You cannot decorate your car enough. We added checkered (black and white) all around the top of the car for that race car vibe and it was the perfect touch. I also used black paper plates with gold paper I cut into.a circle for the wheels and now Max has the perfect DIY Hot Wheels cardboard car for Halloween night. Also I made some cardboard flames, painted them and hot glued them to the back of a red solo cup for some extra boosters for his Hot Wheels. I love that this costume was a co-creation for us and he will be a 1/1 costume while trick or treating. I also love pairing this costume with one that I can match., I got some black and white checker overalls and shot some race day flags to wave and now we are ready to embody, Hot Wheels Let’s Race for Halloween night. I love a fun family costume moment!
