I grew up watching Disney movies in theaters and on VHS tape. Disney movies were a HUGE part of my childhood and now as a mother, Disney movies remain a staple in our family-friendly entertainment nights. We always say there is just a little bit of pixi dust on everything Disney touches and DUMBO is no exception. Disney’s DUMBO has a magical way of taking an old classic animated cartoon and breathing so much life into it. The visual decadence is unrivaled. The richness in color, wardrobe and set immediately draw you into this movie. If you love Moulin Rouge and/or The Greatest Showman style movies…DUMBO is most definitely a MUST WATCH this weekend.
This is the classic tale of someone or something being “different” and there being shunned and then overcoming that making the trait the showstopper of the movie. This movie parallels the story of PT Barnum in my opinion with Michael Keaton playing the ultimate villain, V.A Vandevere. He is over the top and semi-evil with his intentions of purchasing The Medici Brothers circus (Max Medici is played by Danny Devito) and bringing Dumbo over to his New York City amusement park “Dreamland” as the main attraction of a flying baby elephant. While Dumbo is a showstopper and his large ears are finally of good use, his mother Mrs. Jumbo has been locked up within in the same amusement park in the “evil” section on display. She was sent there basically for being a protective mama bear or in this case, a mama elephant. Any mother can relate to Mrs. Jumbo and her intentions.
I love Nico Parker, daughter of Thandie Newton, in her breakout movie. She was sweet and her acting was perfect for this movie. She played well with Colin Farrell who plays her dad.
Tim Burton nailed the remake of one of my favorite movies of all time, DUMBO. It is a much watch this weekend. Excuse me while I head over to the El Capitan to watch this fan favorite again!
