You can never fully prepare for motherhood until you become a mother. I thought that I could totally figure out a newborns sleep schedule, or really lack of sleep schedule, because I had graduated college. I mean, how different could pulling an all nighter or partying through the night lack of sleep be that different from having to wake up to feed the baby, change the diaper and then continue to snooze. Seriously, it was supposed to be easy peasy. I even went on Amazon prior to my kiddo’s birth and loaded up on all the books I was going to read during my maternity leave. What else was I going to do after I breastfed the baby, changed the diaper and put him back down for a nap? I was going to have so much time on my hands. I could not even wait for my break from work. Well, as I am sure you have assumed I was in for a RUDE awakening. I never even touched a book and I was exhausted after having a baby. Being a mom was HARD work and I started to understand the saying, “it takes a village.” After crying to my hubby about how difficult nursing was, figuring out why he had gas, my milk issues…we set out to find my new mommy tribe. As a parent, it is so much better to find your tribe than man or woman it alone.
