May 8th, I had the opportunity to kick off my week with listening to an intimate press Q &A event at the IMAX headquarters in Playa Vista, CA for the world premiere trailer release of Blade Runner 2049 with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Is there any better way to start the week??? I know I barely existed when the first Blade Runner came out in 1982, but I watch it well into the late 90s, so a sequel to the original SciFi thriller is definitely on my watch list.
The Q & A was as awesome as one would expect. Filmmaker and Director Denis Villeneuve talked about how every day on set was the biggest directing challenge yet extremely exhilarating especially working with Roger Deakins with cinematography. Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling talked about viewers can expect from this film 30 years after Ridely Scott can out with the first Blade Runner that also also starred with Harrison Ford.

There is a lot of chatter online whether Blade Runner 2049 will be as good as the original Blade Runner and I don’t think that is fair. Will Jared Leto be as good as Rutger Hauer’s in the original? Will the music be as compelling? We won’t know until it hits theaters on October 6th 2017. My mindset is that the original Blade Runner was incredible and that while 2049 is carrying out the story, I need to watch it with fresh eyes with a new interpretation by a new director, cinematographer and new actors other than Harrison Ford who is still playing Deckard 30 years later.
Harrison Ford on how technology has adapted in reality versus in the Blade Runner universe:
“I think it’s fascinating”
I do love that Harrison Ford is officially on Instagram and millennial Ryan Gosling is not but you can find him tweeting is 2M+ fans.
Who is watching Blade Runner 2049 with me on October 6th???
