This past week, we were hanging out in the backyard soaking in some much needed ☀️ while eating bowls of 🍓 talking about everything going on in the world. It’s a new normal for me only going to the grocery store once every couple weeks ( I love going multiple times a week), not going to workout and not running errands and being out and about but we know we are #saferathome and we are doing our part to help #flattenthecurve …. we also don’t know the full effects of #covid_19 yet mentally (mental health right now is a big deal), physically and economically on us so we feel like we are trying to listen to every press conference and read every new article to fully understand the scope of the Coronavirus because the unknown is difficult to grasp
While we were sitting there and Baby Crownholm was kicking away in my belly, it made me think about the world he/she is coming into. I want Baby C to be proud to be part Indian, part Chinese and part Swedish/English/Spanish. I am proud to be half Chinese…my mom was Chinese from Indonesia and came to the US at 18 not speaking a word of English and ended up graduating with two masters degrees in engineering and math from USC. She was a phenomenal woman and I am proud to be a part of her. I get that the Coronavirus took off in China but any disease could start anywhere at anytime and nobody deserves to deal with #xenophobia … what makes the US so incredible is the melting pot of nationalities. I know that the vast majority of people are not calling this the Chinese Flu or Kung Flu but for the minority that is and taking action against fellow Chinese in this country my heart is broken 💔. I am hoping in the days to come that part of the conversation is deleted and we all band together in trying to truly flatten the curve and not overwhelm our medical system. 🙏 for a vaccine
