So I used to be a die hard Super Bowl fan, well lets be more clear…I always was SUPER excited about watching the commercials and eating super delish finger foods. I mean, who doesn’t get excited about that?!?! After attending the a Super Bowl games almost a decade ago, I was spoiled. I just loved being in all the action, so watching the game on TV lost a little luster. Then with the advancement of technology, all of of my beloved commercials were available online almost instantly after they aired…so the only thing tying me to the game was the halftime show, which again I can watch on rerun on YouTube. So now I have what I call Super Bowl Monday…where I have all my favorite eats (I stock up on chips and dipping sauces, mini sandwiches, desserts galore and more) and get comfy on my couch to watch all the fab commericals and the halftime show with no interruptions other than my 5 year old and life, but that happens every day right?
So why do I look forward to Super Bowl Sunday?
While everybody is holed up at a bar, a friends house or a fun party…the rest of the country is fairly quiet. The ski lifts are empty, the Disneyland lines used to be at an all time low until people figured out what a great day it is to go, traffic is “LA non-existent” for day. It almost feels like the world is my oyster…so what are my most favorite LA outings on this glorious day?
1. Snow to Beach Mt Baldy first thing in the am for tubing/sledding and then straight to the beach for some 80 degree fun
2. NexGen at LACMA Its the free day with crafts for the kids and usually fairly crowded but not on Super Bowl Sunday
3. Costco Yes I know this is a funny thing to say but after the game starts, there are no lines. There is no fighting over the last gallon of hummus or shopping cart racing to the shortest line…every line is fast and short. As a mom, this day is a dream to run errands
4. Picnic at the Griffith Observatory Take a quick hike from the Fern Dell to Griffith Observatory with a picnic packed in a backpack provides for a fun evening. You can head inside to the Observatory to go star gazing or look through the Zeiss refracting telescope which generally has a crazy line
5.The Star Gazing Room at the Broad Musuem Now I have not been there before and this on our list for the year. Generally even if you get there right when the museum opens, there is a 3 hour wait for the infamous star room. This is on my LA bucket list because it looks SO COOL. We will see if Super Bowl Sunday makes this outing much more manageable. (Photo credit from the Broad Facebook Page)
So I say, take advantage of Super Bowl Sunday…get out and enjoy the day and get caught up on Monday! Happy Adventuring!
