After 3 long years of infertility/fertility issues, we are finally pregnant with a healthy 18 week old babe! After having a miscarriage after 2.5 years of trying, my mind was convinced it might take another 2.5 years before we had a baby. My fertility acupuncturist was quite certain it would be just a few months and she was right. Right in the middle of our move and home renovation when we put baby making on hold…BOOM…we got pregnant. I couldn’t even believe it! Sometimes life has a plan all of its own.
Due to the journey of fertility we had been on, as soon as I found out I was in fact pregnant I called my OBGYN. I knew I was in for some extra special VIP treatment. First up it was blood test to make sure that the pregnancy was not ectopic and progressing correctly. They check this by measuring the HCG levels in your blood. They have to double within 48 hours. Waiting for every blood test result was nerve wrecking. The day came quickly to go to the first ultrasound and see the tiny tiny baby at 7 weeks. It was a very exciting moment while we were at the doctor and then it soon became a very scary period we entered between that appointment and the 11 week appointment. Somewhere between these two appointments last time, we miscarried. I remember having this insanely sharp pain near my uterus but we will never know if that is the day the pregnancy ended. It was like waiting on pins and needles for the 11 week appointment. I kept working out lightly, eating well and taking it easy. I just didn’t want to rock the 1st trimester boat at all. The day came for the 11 week appointment and was glad I didn’t just go for the fetal monitor because it ended up not working that day. We day the baby and a very strong heartbeat and it felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off of my shoulders and we could not have been happier. More about the pregnancy coming but in the mean time…we are relishing in the idea of having a family of 4 finally!
