As a lifeling of SpongeBob SquarePants, it is no surprise that I am also a HUGE fan of Sandy Cheeks. She is just the cutest squirrel so for Halloween I had to make a costume in her honor. I wanted to keep her general shape and vibe as close to the animated version of Sandy Cheeks as possible so I thought I would anchor the DIY costume with a small sized trash can and spray paint it white. I am 5’3” for reference. I got a 20 gallon round trash can. This is a great size for a child too! It took about 1.5 can of spray paint and then my hubby cut out the arm and neck holes. I then added some silver grommet stickers as well as silver glitter paper zipper and acorn patch. SO cute!
ordered a clear bubble astronaut helmet and added a purple felt rose to it. I also ordered squirrel ears and a tail as well to complete the Sandy Cheeks full looks and yes you really need these pieces! I put the trash can over my white leggings and white long sleeve shirt and it was almost perfect…and added some red ovals to my silver shearling boots and PERFECTION! We have just DIYed the coolest Sandy Cheeks costume. While you can do a white dress/tunic instead of the trash can..I think the trashcan element will be the talk of Halloween night! This might be one of my favorite Halloween DIY costumes yet!
