Cowabunga Friends! We re officially on the Halloween countdown so we have been having some fun creating budget friendly yet super cute and fun Halloween costumes over here. It is still up in the air what our family costume will be but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a pretty strong contender. The costume we created was a dollar store special but it turned out amazing.
What You Need:
2 Single Use Oven Roasting Pans
Light Green Acrylic Paint
Brown Acrylic Paint (I used Terracotta Paint)
Green Pool Noodle
Duct Tape
Green single use Table Cloth
Purple (or whichever color you choose) fabric remnant
Green shirt and Pants
How to Make a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Shell:
Take your single use oven roasting pains and paint the backside green. It doesn’t need perfect coverage. I did one layer of paint and it was streaky which gives it a cool texture. Be generous with the paint. Once that dries, take your brown paint and paint the lines/indents on the back of the oven pan you just roasted. I wouldn’t suggest using too much paint so it looks more like a turtle shell. I also took a paper towel and dipped it in the brown point and brushed the sides and back to give it some more realistic turtle shell like texture/vibe. That’s it! I used a knife to cut a slit on each side of each pan and then used the purple remnant to make a tie and a headband. Eddie slipped this on over his green sweatpants and shirt he already owned and it was a super fun costume; however he wanted an accessory to complete his costume so we decided to make Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Nun Chuks out of a pool noodle
Pool Noodle Nun Chuks:
You are going to slice two even pieces of pool noodle. I find a sharp knife works best to cut straight with. and then I took a shred of a green tablecloth and twisted it and then glued the ends into the hole of each pool noodle and then wrapped the top of the table cloth and the pool noodle with duct tape to keep it together. Literally 5 min later Eddie had a super fun Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle accessory. This has been a hit in our house since then.
