October 16th theĀ BRAND NEW Science Behind Pixar, well new to LA, exhibit opened at the California Science Center. The Science Center is one of our family’s favorite spots to spend hours. It is just such a cool place, plus you get to see the Endeavor up close and personal.
So to be able to check out the Science Behind Pixar before it opened to the public was pretty incredible. We started with a little movie explaining the “science” behind how Pixar movies are made.We learned that there are 24 frames per second of movie. We then headed into a 12,000 square foot exhibit that shows all the concepts behind the Pixar movies. Some of the exhibits we were able to manipulate and experience included:
- Modeling with Buzz Lightyear
- Building Model Robots to then animate
- Shapes with Ratatouille
- Creating realistic hands
- Creating Merida’s Curls with Coils
- Exploring light with Dory
- Surfaces with In and Out
- Creating shapes and moving them
There was SO much more to see and experience hands on. I think we counted that there were about 40 STEM exhibits to visit. No matter how your experience the Science Behind Pixar, you will have a new appreciation for how animation is created and how long it takes to make a single movie. Every single one of your favorite Pixar characters is there. This is a must do with kids or without kids while in LA.
